LEAP NEWS - Big Lottery gives a big LEAP to Lambeth

In June 2014, the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) was awarded a £36M grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s A Better Start initiative to lead on an innovative programme in partnership with the Lambeth Early Action Partnership (LEAP), to transform the lives of babies and children living in Lambeth.

Over the ten years of Big Lottery investment, LEAP will support the social, emotional, communication and language development of babies and children, and the health and wellbeing of their parents and social environment. The programme will harness the skills, commitment and untapped resources of parents, carers, local workers, community groups and practitioners to create a whole family approach to the way agencies and services currently work with pregnant mothers, fathers, babies, their families and communities.

LEAP will also train Parent Champions to support other parents with key priorities to improve communication and language, diet and nutrition, relationships and wellbeing.

The first phase of the project will concentrate on four areas within Lambeth – Coldharbour, Stockwell, Tulse Hill and Vassall – to help families from pregnancy until their child is four years old.

The LEAP for A Better Start initiative is a big step in the right direction to support young children towards a promising future.
