What is Natural Thinkers?

Natural Thinkers is a programme that supports practitioners in connecting children with nature through practical activities that are inspiring and motivating.

Central to the programme are 10 commitments which give a structure for practitioners to focus their work. Through embedding it we are aiming to develop children’s communication and language development and enhance their health and well-being.

What does the programme involve?

Practitioners will need to attend one whole day and two two-hour sessions

The whole day session will include exploring the aims of the programme, research about the benefits of outdoor learning and the 10 commitments.  In the afternoon there will be a practical session giving ideas around Spring and Summer to implement with children under 3.  This will then be followed up with 2-hour session in Sept focusing on Autumn and another 2-hour session focusing on Winter both being predominantly practical. In between support visits will be arranged to the settings.

Practitioners will need to use monitoring and evaluation tools which they will be guided through on the training to demonstrate the impact on children’s learning.

Once the training has been completed settings will receive an accreditation visit to become a Natural Thinkers setting.

Funding

The training will be free to practitioners working in the LEAP wards of Vassall, Coldharbour, Tulse Hill and Stockwell. They must attend all three sessions.

Funding will also be available for each setting to purchase resources to embed the programme which they will receive on completion of an action plan.
