What is Brief Encounters?

LEAP has been working with OnePlusOne to bring Brief Encounters Training to the wider early years workforce in Lambeth. Brief Encounters is a training course for frontline practitioners working with children and families as they are usually turned to when people experience problems at home. The model was developed by OnePlusOne and is designed to give practitioners the practical tools, skills, and information to be able to offer timely and effective support to parents, whether they are together or not.

How does the model work in practice?

The models enables staff to:

  1. Recognise the signs of relationship distress at an early stage.
  2. Respond effectively to offer support using appropriate and effective techniques.

Who is the training offered to?

Throughout 2016, LEAP trained 123 practitioners from 13 different services which included health visitors, family support workers, police officers, housing officers, mental health practitioners, early years staff and professionals working in the voluntary and community sector.
