Doorstep Library

In February 2018 we will bestarting a new project in partnership with Doorstep Libraries that will begin on the Tulse Hill Estate, before being taken to housing estates in Coldharbour, Stockwell and Vassall.

How Doorstep Library works

Local volunteers who are trained by Doorstep Library will visit families in pairs once a week during term-time to read and share stories with children aged from 0-four years old. The volunteers will carry with them a bag of books which children will be able to borrow from and change their books weekly from the convenience of their own homes.

The emphasis is for it to be a fun experience, fostering a love of books for the whole family.

Families

Volunteers will also engage with parents to show how important (and easy) it is for them to share stories with their children and take an active part in their child’s learning.

As well as this, the volunteers will have useful information to give out, signposting families where relevant to what is on offer in their community in terms of a range of support services, up-coming events, workshops and training.
