A Better Start and Funding

LEAP is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, as part of their A Better Start initiative.

A Better Start aims to improve the life chances of babies and very young children by delivering a significant increase in the use of preventative approaches in pregnancy and first three years of life.

Big Lottery Fund has invested £215m over 10 years into five local area partnerships within Blackpool, Bradford, Lambeth, Nottingham and Southend-on-Sea.

A Better Start Evaluation

The Big Lottery is conducting an independent evaluation of A Better Start (ABS), which will run alongside the 10-year programme.

The evaluation, led by Warwick University and made up of a range of universities and research organisations, will look at what works, for whom, and under what circumstances by focusing on LEAP’s set up implementation and effectiveness. The findings of the evaluation will be shared across the other ABS sites and more widely to inform future projects.
